Arsenal Ladies have been crowned Premier League champions after beaten nearest rivals Charlton Athletic 2-0 on Thursday night.
Their 5-0 win over Everton at the weekend meant that Vic Akers side could seal their third successive title with victory over Charlton who were eight points behind at the start of play.
The Gunners looked hungry from the start and hit the bar three times before England star Kelly Smith rounded off a fine passing move to put Arsenal in front with just over 20 minutes played.
It wasn't all going their way though, and it needed a fine save from Irish keeper Emma Byrne to keep Arsenal in front as she repelled a Casey Stoney penalty in the second half.
Quick-thinking from Smith helped seal victory for Arsenal with three minutes left on the clock. She rolled the ball into the path of Rachel Yankey for sharply taken free-kick on the edge of the box and England winger Yankey delivered the killer finish.
Akers was understandable delighted after the match: "It's a fantastic achievement on their part," he said.
"It's fantastic record we've got as a club, I'm proud of that and I'm proud of the way we play our football and conduct ourselves on the field of play.
"Winning trophies is enjoyable and I'd love to do the double. But we have to make sure we are focused for The Cup Final."
Arsenal will have their chance to claim the double at Millwall FC on 1 May as they meet Leeds United in The FA Women's Cup Final.
Tickets are available in advance, priced £3 adults and £1 concessions or on the day priced £5 adults and £2.50 concessions.
